Transparency, accountability and integrity are essential to effective leadership.
Crises are defining moments of leadership. A crisis will generally determine the monetary value of leadership's transparency, accountability and integrity. During a crisis, leaders have an opportunity to be transparent about their involvement or actions, to be accountable for their actions, and respond with integrity. Often leaders will conceal their liability, deny all responsibility and lie to avoid any loss from the crisis. The value of the loss is the price of their principles. Often that price is very low and ultimately is paid regardless of the effort to avoid it.
Leaders must ensure to maintain the highest standard of transparency, accountability and integrity during crises. Transparency, accountability and integrity are the greatest defence during the worst crisis.
