The current speed limit controls in school zones in most developed and developing nations are more than adequate. The application of safety controls such a reduction of speed limits in school zones focuses on the elimination of a hazard and is rightly the primary control. However, in road safety, such measure has limitations and cannot be the sole control. Pedestrian safety education and training is vital and is not being implemented in schools as it should be. The community is relying on slowing traffic in limited zones instead of intense education to prepare children for commuting outside the safety of a school zone.
